“England is in crisis and America needs to know what’s going on to their good friend across the pond,” says Christine Constable, Vice Chairman of England’s newest political party - the English Democrats. Christine is visiting Pennsylvania on a week long trip to tell Americans about the failure of democracy that is now gripping England. Her comments on her country follow.
Many people are unaware that the Labour Government, lead by Tony Blair, has begun a process of destroying England as a nation state. Plans to drive through the “regionalisation” of England, will see the ancient English County system, replaced by 9 “super regions” designed to “fit in” with Brussels and the wish by the European Union to govern all members of the EU in a “regional” format.
The consequence of breaking England into regions will be devastating. It will mean that England as a unified nation state will cease to exist. Gordon Brown, (tipped to be the next Prime minister) has already given his vision for the new UK. To him it will consist of the “nations” of Scotland and Wales, and England will simply become “the regions”.
Already Charles Clarke the Home secretary, has removed local policing and is driving through major structural change to create super police forces which “mirror” the new Euro Regions, and begin the centralized workings of Europol - the new Brussels controlled police structure. Health services and planning policy has also moved to a regional structure, leaving the prospect in the next two years of County Councils and local councils ceasing to exist.
Labour claims these changes are to “improve” democracy, by taking decision making away from local people and delivering it directly to Brussels - most people can see that democracy is the last thing on Labour’s mind.
The break up of England is being undertaken without any discussion or proper consultation. The only vote that was had on regionalisation happened in November 2004 in the “North East” region. Voters were asked if they wanted to have a regional assembly. The voters in the North East voted by 75% against a regional assembly, but despite this Labour has continued to break-up England.
England has ceased to have any real power over its affairs and the parliamentary system following devolution enables Scottish and Welsh MPs to vote on purely English matters, but denies English MPs voting on Scottish or Welsh matters, creating an undemocratic and intolerable tension within the UK Parliament and amongst the English electorate.
Although the Labour Party has support from only 23% of those registered to vote, they behave as if they have a complete mandate to drive through any kind of constitutional or legislative change they please, and consultation or consent from the people of England is quite simply denied.
The electoral constituency boundaries have been so manipulated, that even if the Conservatives received exactly the same votes as the Labour party, Labour would still have over 60 seats extra in Parliament compared to the number the Conservatives would receive for the same vote! When you add these “engineered seats” to those from Scottish and Welsh MPs (who largely vote Labour), it is easy to see why Labour have no intention of preventing Scottish and Welsh MPs voting on English only matters. England without her own Parliament - doesn’t have her own voice.
Even the House of Lords cannot be trusted to protect England’s interests. Tony Blair before coming to office, complained that the Lords was populated by hereditary peers and so set about removing these peers from the Upper House. Despite the House of Commons favoring a largely elected upper Chamber, Tony Blair has resolutely refused to properly restructure the Lords to make it more democratic, we now have 46% of the new peers admitted to the Lords being appointments by Tony Blair himself, and current public disquiet that many of these new peers may have allegedly gained their appointments by giving loans to the Labour party.
After implementing devolution in 1997, we now have Scotland with her own Parliament, Wales with her own Assembly and England with no overall control over her own affairs and devolution denied to England. When Gordon Brown becomes Prime minister (as he surely will) as an MP elected by the citizens of Scotland, he will (in effect) become First Minister of England, although not one English voter will have voted for him. This is the state of English democracy in 2006.
The BBC, increasingly seen as an organ of the left leaning State apparatus, has failed to broadcast any meaningful public debate on the future of England. It regularly ignores major Constitutional issues, or covers them from a perspective that suggests only minor administrative changes are taking place, keeping large tracts of the public ignorant about the true intentions of Labour.
English Democrats have constantly written complaining to the BBC that it is refusing to properly cover England’s democratic deficit and is failing to alert the public to the significant constitutional and social changes which will see the nation State of England eradicated - all without even a single vote being cast.
